It is summer time again and that means the demand for Summertime Survival Tips for Moms-To-Be. Summer is the perfect time to get out of the house and enjoy the sunshine while staying safe from the elements. Since being pregnant is still a new experience for any woman, it’s important to make sure your safety and your baby’s safety are top priority this summer. Here are some emergency preparedness steps that you can follow to ensure the best possible start to your new pregnancy.

When traveling by car, be sure to have the proper documents in the vehicle. These will include your insurance policy for your car and all the necessary documents and insurance required for traveling. If your car breaks down or you get a flat tire, pull over to a safe place on the side of the road and call 911 immediately. While waiting for the responding officers, do not play with your baby. If possible, stay in the car with the baby and use a stroller to take the baby in the vehicle while someone else goes to check out the issue.

The first step in preparing for any type of emergency is to get an emergency kit together that includes food bars, a blanket, a clean diaper, medications, baby wipes, toilet paper, a hand-held fan, duct tape, nail clippers, plasters, and other handy items. Also include a first-aid kit and a bag containing medications for common illness and injury. This kit should contain pain relievers for a fever or rash, and other medications to fight exhaustion and relieve the pain. Make sure each person has enough food and water to last for at least three days. This is also a good time to stock up on batteries for flashlights and candles in case of power outages.

While you are at home, ensure that the baby has access to fresh water throughout the day. Keep a supply of clean water in the diaper bag at all times. You can use boiling water or clean tap water. Just be sure the water is not too hot to drink.

Your baby’s clothing should be easy to wash and dry as possible. This will give comfort and help keep him warm. Do not leave babies with synthetic clothing as it will make it more difficult to dry. Be sure to replace synthetic clothing with organic clothing whenever possible.

In order to stay warm, make sure your baby has a heat pad handy to put on. There are electric heated mats available if you do not have one. The heat pad works by sending a mild wave through the pad and can raise the temperature of the room. It is important to note that electric heated pads should be placed away from outlets. Electric heated pads can become quite hot.

Freeze-drying foods is an option during the summer. By freeze-drying foods you remove all water from them and then seal them in air-tight containers. Foods such as beans, peas, rice and oatmeal can be freeze dried. These foods are rich in moisture and can be stored for months.

If you are worried about ants and other pests in your yard, summer is the time to take preventative measures. Buy some insect repellants and put them around your yard. You could also sprinkle some on the grass especially between patches of weeds. Summertime survival tips are there to help you if you follow them and practice some of the common sense ones.

Try to store all your food and water in one place. Put the food in one container and the water in another. Put all the garbage in a trashcan. Do not forget to stock up on some firewood. You might need it for cooking. Stock up on some candles, matches and other emergency supplies.

You may not have realized it, but store your emergency food and supplies in Tupperware containers. They come in handy for keeping liquids and other things cool during a summer heat wave. You can also store dry foods in the fridge so that they don’t spoil.

Summertime survival tips are only meant as a guide. You must remember that you are an individual and that no two situations are alike. Always be prepared for anything. Summer is a season that can make or break your life.
