Poem for Men: Playing the Game

The men in my family are all out of work, so we’re playing the game.
I’m watching them grow weaker as they struggle with their pasts and worry for our future. I don’t want to play this game anymore; but until someone fixes it, I guess that’s what we’ll do – because at least then we have each other.

“the game poem” is a poem about a man who has been playing the game for so long. The man feels like he doesn’t know what to do with his life anymore and that he’s just going through the motions because of how much time he spends playing this one game.

The other day, I came across this poetry by an unknown author. I believe it encapsulates how a guy should conduct himself in life: play fairly, don’t complain when things don’t go your way, and give it your all in all you do. You will be successful if you play the game of life properly.

If we can only play it well, life is a game with a wonderful payoff. It’s give and take, build and break, and it often ends in a struggle; yet he who honestly strives (regardless of riches or fame) will always triumph, and he who plays it fair will never despair. How do you approach the game?

If you don’t win, do you shrivel and whine? In the way in which you believe you are entitled? Do you scoff at the guy if he can, and often does, outperform you? Do you smile knowingly when you’re rebuffed? Do you giggle even while you’re pulling up lame? Is your religion valid even when the sky is blue? How do you approach the game?

Get right in the middle of the action — wade in, lads! Whatever your most treasured ambition is; Brace your willpower till your pulses race, and you dare to go to the depths of your soul! Create an effort to do more than just make a racket. Allow your mission to catch fire. You will be playing the game if you dive with a yell of “I will do or die.”
