Stopping at a QuickTrip for a morning burrito may not save you much time or money (the going fee for a QT burrito right now is $2.50). And what about those pre-made burritos from the store? They’re teeny-tiny. To fill me up, I have to eat two of these, and the sausage is usually sparse.

  • 18 eggs
  • 14 tortillas (flour)
  • 1 shredded cheese bag (the pic above has two bags, but I ended up just using one)
  • 2 packets (16 oz.) breakfast sausage
  • 1 onion, white
  • 2 bell peppers, green

Ingredients cost a total of $15.54.

Burritos are $1.11 each.

It took 1 hour and 30 minutes to prepare everything (including clean-up).

When you compare it to the price of a McDonald’s breakfast burrito, you’ll notice a significant difference: $1.00

Yes, the El Monterey burritos were $.20 less expensive than the McDonald’s burrito. The handmade burritos, on the other hand, have a significant benefit in that they are, well, larger. When you compare pricing per ounce, my burritos are at least 1.5X the size of comparable rivals, so you really save money. In addition, I receive less chemical ingredients and more meat in my burrito, which is just how I want it.

 

Burritos: How to Make Them

Step 1: Prepare the onion and peppers and cook them.

Cook for about 10 minutes, or until softened.

Step 2: Prepare the Sausage

Cooking 28 ounces of sausage is a large task, and it will take some time. While you’re waiting for it to cook, you may start preparing the eggs. Then, in preparation for feeding your stomach, go through a copy of Manvotionals to feed your soul.

Eat a piece of sausage after it has been cooked because sausage is delicious. After that, place it in a bowl and keep it away for subsequent use in the burrito-making step.

In a large mixing basin, crack 18 eggs. Look to those those chicken embryos that were prevented.

Step 4: Assemble the Burritos

Now that we’ve prepped all of our supplies, it’s time to begin constructing. On a medium-sized piece of foil, place a tortilla.

Toss in as many ingredients as you like. I began with an egg layer, then a good portion of sausage, followed with some onion and pepper, and then some cheese.

Step 5: Make a Burrito Wrap

That breakfast burrito looks fantastic. Wrap the burritos in foil as soon as possible. Allow them to cool slightly so that condensation does not form within the foil and ice crystals form on your burrito. Naturally, this means your whole kitchen counter will be covered with burritos laying on foil squares. Alternatively, you may let all of the components cool before wrapping them in foil. But I lacked the patience to do so. Regardless of whatever method you choose, keep creating burritos until you’ve used all of your ingredients.

Step 6: Put in the freezer

With a marker, write the date you made your burritos on the foil. They have a three-week lifespan.

Step 7: Warm up your burrito and enjoy it!

Warming up these burritos seems to be best done between 2:30 and 2:45 p.m. Halfway through, flip it over. Allow for a minute of cooling time after removing it from the oven.
