During World War II, George “Old Blood and Guts” Patton, a four-star general, commanded American forces admirably. He received the Purple Heart, two Exceptional Service Crosses, three Distinguished Service Medals, two Silver Stars, and countless additional awards over his 36 years of distinguished military service. Patton was known for his proficiency on the battlefield as well as his outgoing nature. With his medals embossed on his chest, a gleaming helmet on his head, and two ivory-handled pistols slung around his waist, he was a sight to see. His subordinates grumbled about his insistence on severe discipline, but they recognized that his tough leadership increased their chances of survival.
Patton, like every other man in history, was not without flaws. His obsession with battle bordered on the insane, and his bravado and outspokenness often led him into trouble. In a hospital, he smacked a soldier suffering from “battle exhaustion” and branded him a coward, which became one of his most famous contentious incidents.
But he was a natural at his work. He was destined to lead troops into war. While one may disagree with his worldview, he was an indisputably charismatic leader and great motivator of men. These General Patton quotations can provide a much-needed jolt to any guy.
