If you enjoy a variety of berries, nuts, and meats on occasion, you may have trouble finding a store that specializes in these foods.

Another alternative for those on a tight budget is signing up for a co-op with a group that serves gluten free meals. These groups cater to those with celiac disease, as well as those with wheat allergies.

Once you’ve found a few options, be sure to price shop. While specialty items may seem like they’re priced too high, you can often find a good bargain. There are some really good deals on wheat breads in the $5 range. Other specialty breads, such as rye and wheat breads, can be had for much less, especially if you shop at thrift stores, consignment shops, or online.

Check out your freezer, too. Some people toss away perfectly good bread that they’ve bought, thinking it’s never going to use again. But, by buying frozen products, you can save money and enjoy delicious bread on a budget. Just make sure the frozen products are gluten free, some of which may even be prepared by the same company that makes the regular products.

Many companies offer gluten free products throughout the year, including Christmas and Hanukkah products. Shop around for clearance sales and seasonal products. If you want to make sure you are getting a quality product, look at the back label before purchasing. Many products will say this on the label, but it’s always best to ask for a product inspection. It’s not always an easy thing to do when you’re in a hurry or on the go, but it can pay off in the end.

When buying in bulk, it pays to buy in bulk. This is especially true if you have a large family or lots of people in your household. Bulk discounts are often offered at a large department and home improvement stores. If you’re willing to invest time and energy, you can find great deals at places like Costco and Target. For those who are willing to spend time and energy, you can often find great deals through private label brands as well.

On the surface, shopping for gluten free products may seem difficult. However, it doesn’t have to be. By planning your shopping trips ahead of time, you can really maximize your savings. Keep in mind what food groups you are addressing with your diet. This will help you find food items that are appropriate for you. With a little work, you can find the recipes that will allow you to enjoy delicious foods while still sticking to your gluten-free diet.
