A lot of people have an innate fear when it comes to situations where there is scarcity of food and this is usually used during times of war. However, this need not be the case as finding food in a famine can also be done if you use some tips for survival used throughout history. Some of these are a bit basic while others require more advanced knowledge but no matter how much you know about food, you can still survive during a disaster. In addition, even if you know little about the topic, there are a few tips that you should know that will greatly affect your chances of staying alive. These tips include being patient, knowing what to eat and how much to eat, having patience and not panicking, and knowing which foods are more nutritious than others.

The first tip for finding food in a famine is to understand what exactly you should be doing. This means using your local knowledge to help you find food rather than researching in libraries and utilizing the internet. The internet is full of ideas that you can put to good use and they will surely prove to be more beneficial in this situation than if you were to research using more traditional means. Also, it should be noted that food does not just disappear after it has been plucked from the earth; it is still there making it highly possible to find food despite a lack of modern technology.

Another great tip for finding food in a disaster is to make sure that you stay hydrated. This is essential because water is one of the most important nutrients that people need to survive. If there is a shortage of clean drinking water, people will likely suffer dehydration which will cause them to become weak, malnourished and possibly die. You should therefore ensure that you are well hydrated by drinking plenty of water and the water should preferably be clean water from a stream or a lake.

Food storage is also a key issue when facing a fad as many people simply do not have the space to keep large stockpises of food. When dealing with this situation, it will be a good idea to start by having some small portable food stores. These can be kept in places such as attics or basements, making it easy to return to should you run short of food. It is also a good idea to keep your stock of emergency food small. This means that you should only have a few days supply so if it rains you should be able to get through without too much difficulty. It is also a good idea to cut down on the amount of food that you purchase in a crisis by only stocking the bare essentials.

It will also be important to store any medical supplies that you may have such as tablets. You should also keep a stocked first aid kit. In times of food scarcity it can be very easy for people to pick up simple first aid supplies that they can find around their home. If possible, try and use one of the small portable flashlights that are available that can easily fit into a cupboard. You should also keep some canned goods like milk and soup. These are items that most people tend to discard easily but can provide relief to sufferers of a shortage of basic food and water.

Another thing that you should consider doing is having a good supply of baby food on hand as this has been shown to reduce the chance of people going into a state of starvation. It is also a good idea to have enough utensils that people can use to try to clean themselves out after they have had as little as possible to eat. As with most things in these situations it is important to stay hydrated. If people are not properly hydrated, they risk getting extremely sick as they struggle to clear their system.

The last of the many simple tips for survival when faced with starvation is to simply find whatever food you have left in your local markets. As long as you have access to at least two hundred grams of food a person should be able to survive on about two hundred grams of local food per day. It is also a good idea to use the food that you take with you when you go out as this will be distributed to the various families in your community. Even if you do not manage to get through the whole week of fasting you will at least have provided yourself and your family with the basics of survival.

The one caveat to remember here is that even if you find yourself with access to a wide variety of fresh foods and livestock from which to choose from you will still have to make sure that you clean up afterwards. Food that has not been properly cleaned can be a source of deadly toxins that can harm the people who consume them. It is also a good idea to carry with you some bottled water to ensure that you never run out of clean drinking water during a long period of time. It is also a good idea to make sure that you have fresh clothes available at all times as well as useful items such as utensils, bandages and needles that can easily be used as first aid tools. Once you reach home, you will find that your local markets are now empty and that you have a few basic tools including cooking aids and utensils that you will need to make food. The rest of your stock can be divided between storing the food that you already have and taking care of any small wounds or sicknesses that you may pick up.
