Do you need some good, 20 crime prevention tips from a veteran cop? It’s a very serious thing that we face in this country, and many times it can feel like we’re not really prepared. This is one of those times when we need to know and understand what we’re up against, and what we can do to defend ourselves. When I retired, I set out to learn all I could about crime and the different kinds of crimes that are out there. That way, I could be prepared for the worst, and so could you.

Too often, people assume that law enforcement is “us” and the criminals are “them.” However, too many officers come home from work burned out, with nothing better to do than fiddle around. This is not the case at all. We have jobs to do, and we have to go to work, but most of us don’t realize that we have other options. We have the option to go to college and get an education in a fresh new field of endeavor, or even to join the police force full time and become a cop!

In addition to all of the other choices, one of the most important is our mental health. There are too many elderly folks out there who have mental problems and can’t function properly in society. We need to be careful not to lock them up in a cage and throw away the key. They don’t want that. They want to get assistance and treatment for their illness, which means that we have to be watchful, and we have to give it to them if we want them to survive and become happy, productive citizens in the future.

Another thing is, of course, the police car, the Batmobile, the SUV, etc. We all know that these are the favorite targets of criminals. Why is that? Well, it is usually because they want something that is very obvious and unprotected. We have all seen car chases on the news, but it is amazing how often those cars are actually stolen!

Another thing that they tend to target is police cars. They either break into them and take the money or they target the police officer who is driving by and try to hijack his car. That is not a pretty sight, and it sure does happen a lot more than you might think. If you are in a situation where you are worried about the safety of someone else or yourself, then you should definitely consider getting a car tracking system so that you can track the car that has gone missing or is wanted.

Also, don’t put yourself in a vulnerable position if you ever find yourself in a situation where you have to talk to the police. If you are shopping in a mall, for example, you never know what will happen. You never know if someone might jump out from behind you and try to mug you. If that ever happens, just hope that the police officer isn’t going to pepper spray you because it won’t do you any good. Instead, just sit back and move to someplace safer. The police officer can cuff you and take you to jail, but he wouldn’t be able to tell you any more crime prevention tips than you could read in your own press releases!

Of course, if you have to talk to the police, be as friendly as possible. Even if you feel that the other person is threatening, just stay calm and do not point the finger of blame at anyone. Crime prevention tips from a veteran cop certainly would include pointing the finger of blame at yourself. If you make yourself look good, then the police officer is going to think that there is nothing wrong with you. It is that simple!

If you have nothing to hide, there is no reason for you to stand out while robbing stores. You may have nothing on your person except a police card or ID, but if you are armed with this information, you can make the maximum use of crime prevention tips from a veteran cop. In fact, most experienced cops would never even think of asking you about anything unless you show them that you have the proper identification. The same applies to all police officers!
